I'm not saying you don't ever need to sit with somebody and get biblical principles applied for your life. That's not what I'm saying there are times when you need that there are times when I need them put part of the process should be identifying those people who have friends in their life they don't have fruit in their life. Don't take account and see in this is that you have David who received bad counsel didn't take us all out. They received bad counsel did with welcome to cross the bridge with David McGee Senior Pastor of the bridge in Kernersville, North Carolina. On today's program. One of David McGee's assisting pastors with us. Welcome Pastor. Thanks, Bob thank you listeners for listening and today as we continue to dig through God's word. We talk about being careful that we don't take bad counsel or advice.

Bob, you know the best way to do that just if it sounds good to you just receive the advice, whether or not it's in the Bible or not, no way Bob get advice when we get counsel.

It's always good to look at God's word to make sure that it lines up with the things that the Lord tells you exactly right… And more about that and how that works in a life. McGee shares first by first through first Samuel chapter 6 verse in chapter 26 is not as it fights came to Saul and give me a saying is David not hiding in the hill patch opposite gesture. Then Saul arose and went down to the wilderness as having 3000 chosen men of Israel with them to seek David in the wilderness and sawing camp in the hill patch which is opposite gesture. Mark by the road, but David stayed in the wilderness and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness and David therefore sounds positive understood that Saul had indeed come to David arose and came to the place where Saul had and can and David saw the place were Salt Lake and Abner the son of an early commander was Army also lay within the camp with the people and camped all around. Then David answered and said to him, elect the Hittite and to ambush I the son of zero brother of Joe absent who will go down with me to Saul, and I can and I wish I said I will go down with you. So David never shy came to the people by nightmare Saul lay sleeping within the camp and the spirit stuck in the ground by said and Abner and the people lay all around then. I wish I said the David God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day.

Now therefore, please let me strike him at once with the spirit right to the earth and I will not have to strike them a second, but David said they have a shot do not destroy him for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord's anointed, and be guiltless.

Verse 10 David said furthermore, as the Lord lives, the Lord shall strike him or his day shall come to die, or he shall go out to battle and perish. Lord forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the Lord's anointed. But please, take now the spear and the jug of water that are by his head, and let us go to David took the spear and the jug of water by Saul Sedley got away, and no man saw or knew it, or will, for they were all asleep because a deep sleep from the Lord and fallen on what I read this you can answer the question because I can't thought you should David have really been wandering around the campus.

All wholeness, fairness, and tempting himself.

Well, apparently God had led him into the camp because the Lord laid game heavy sleep. Let's understand something.

David was under Saul's authority he was under Saul's authority. He's not talking this is his leader and he saying this is the man that God is anointed to be a leader over me in my life, not just some other person so I think that's kind of a twist in and out of context, but it does mean that whoever's been placed in leadership above you has been placed there by God. Some of you probably work for ungodly people you wanted no God have this personnel over me or you know what guy can produce something good.

As you live your Christian life out in front of them.

Maybe it's going to cause them to begin mass consumption question about your faith. Notice what ambush I said when they get that God has delivered your enemy into your hand.

This day I think that much is true. But then I have a shot next he makes mistakes he assumes that the reason that Saul is been delivered in their hands, is so that they can kill it. The reason Saul's been delivered and to his hands, is the test.

David to test. Remember that stuff happens to you in line just a test and you will be tested for an average going all in God. Good luck Kelly. What about a scene here's the thing. You can mistakenly think God is put in a situation like Frank masculine. What do you do when you're somewhere and they give you too much change back: praise the Lord, the Lord gives the median take from you. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Some people think that only give me, but they put the game into Mustang. Praise God only ordered four borders and they gave me seven. Praise the Lord why men it's a test it's a test member being convicted member back when the refund was very many of them anymore because the cell phones with at least be a phone booth everywhere I went to use the phone one day I was on the front and set my finger into the corn return slot and there's a way not consumers going in there to put a coin in the looking for some it's not mine are not God.

Sure, and I've been places where this might give me too much change back or whatever else it all. You know what you getting too much money back in the responses are interesting. I have had some varied response ahead unit one person so all is us. That's very nice in her cannot present what what you tell me so. Because I follow Jesus will be honest and want to be real while maybe. Maybe that person had a misconception about the Christians are that I was able to break down just because he gave me next quarter extra dollar and I was willing to give it back is a test. I haven't passed every test, another time somebody did that when I gave the money back they said all you are such a good and honest person swingman. I'm not really.

I used to be a horrible person can affect if you turn your head out of bed in the till before, but I'm following Jesus now and Jesus is done something my life. He's changed me in exchanging this person who wants to do something right have the desire to do something to these times when you find us all sleeping at your feet, don't automatically assume all praise God less killing God's given me Saul right in my hand. This is awesome. Thank you Jesus. It might be. It might be a test to what how we handle our enemies tells a lot about us what Jesus was, when he said he not pray for your love your enemies, that's the test.

If you're just nice to the people that are nice to you. No big deal. Everybody does. Jesus said, but if you love and you pray and you do good to those who are evil to you that assure the world. Verse 13, that David went over to the other side and stood on the top of the hill far off a great distance being between them they were using wisdom David in this whole situation is acting in wisdom and noticed something to. Unless review David knows he's about to be king. He knows as soon as Saul taken off of the stage. He's going to be king.

So not only is a thing of Saul trying to kill him and him. He attempted to wipe Saul out. He's also been tempted from the sense that as soon as that happens, he's going to advance in a manger fashion in his life, but is not willing to lose his heart for the Lord's principles is ethics.

If you will, is integrity so that he can become king makes you think, what are you willing to do to get a job promotion. Make the next step up the ladder. They was not women do those things. Verse 14 David called out to the people to have the son of nurse and do you not answer Abner the Nadler answer and said who are you calling out to the king persisting so David said that Abner, are you not a man and who is like you in Israel.

Why then have you not guarded your lord the king for one of the people came in to destroy your lord the king this thing that you've done is not good as the Lord lives. You deserve the.as you've not guarded your master the Lord's anointed and now see were the king's spirit is in the jug of water was Brideshead is an amazing thing unnoticed. David is not being shy about slamming that. Are you a man coming this is not these he's messing with Abner EB's will in the mess with Abner wising up mess with assault because he still under Saul's authority seek and go OJ. David was just a really nice guy, just beginning.

Surely well no not really. I mean, might've been a nice guy, but that's not why he was nice to Saul, he was under Saul's submission, you remove that leadership think mess with Abner and as a matter fact, look at David's loyalty.

David is a mad at Abner for not protecting Saul the man who's trying to kill David Wayne. They would was an awesome awesome leader. The spear understand it if you join us for the first time in a while the lighter first time ever, the spear plays an important part because Saul has tried to kill David twice before with the spirit in first Samuel 1811 Susan Saul cast the spear, for he said, I will pin David to the wall, but David escaped his presence twice a chapter ladder later same thing happens different occasion for Samuel 1910 then Saul saw the pen name to the wall of the spear, but he slipped away from Saul's presence and enjoy the spear in the wall for David's lid and escape that line Saul try to kill David twice and there's less fear I think is probably same spirit. Matter fact Saul later because he just dared to spear around everywhere for like the throat of somebody later for Samuel 2032, 33, Susan Jonathan his son answered Saul's father and said to him about David.

Why should he be killed. What is he not then Saul cast the spear at him to sign the killing by which Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father kill David, you have learned care around spear to go through Midsummer and that's a overstress be doing as believers involve some of us have sown the fine art of throwing spears at other people Jesus and put spirit that you follow me put the spear down part of David's training in leadership was knocked to learn how to throw spear to learn how not to throw spear is if you walk around spear friend. Sooner or later you go from a somebody you love still have put the spear down.

The amazing thing is, David is refusing to use a weapon that Saul was willing to use against them now. What possible practical application. Could that have ever get mad just my gossips about your gossip about anybody. Matter fact when you hear somebody you said something about you. There is that moment when somebody is relaying this information Rego. It only a limited about the but if you do that you're guilty of the same crime and or something of integrity about David that he's not willing to do these will and to rise above it and I think long before David ever dealt with the Goliath.

David dealt with the Giants in his own life in fear and insecurity, and running his mouth about other people and trying through spear to be killed the giant in his own life and when that happened, God started bringing Giants other Giants were in the kill to know and he and develop the real leader. During these difficult times. Now back to David McGee. Verse 17 then Saul knew David's voice and said is that your voice, my son, David, and David said, it is my voice, my Lord. Okay, I remember Saul as David's father-in-law, verse 18. He said why does my Lord thus pursue his servant for what have I done what evil is in my hand now therefore please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant, and the Lord stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering event done wrong to make an offering is on the work but if it is the children of men, may they be cursed before the Lord, for they have driven me out this day from sharing in the inheritance of the Lord saying go serve other gods.

One other thing is was really mom and David about he was bumming them out about all this was the fact that he can be in Israel, which was the land that God had given to them as an inheritance.

Not only that, but he was having to run around. He couldn't be in those places of worship and it would appear from the statement that more than being in the desert more than runaround thing that really bothered is the fact that he could have fellowship with other people seeking the Lord in his only to bother you Mr. should bother you when you miss the fellowship of the Lord. When you miss the fellowship of other brothers and sisters. Is there something special or something encouraging the happens and that atmosphere in verse 20 system now. Do not let my blood fault of theirs before the face the Lord for the king of Israel to come out to seek a flea is when one hunts a partridge in the mountains and get think Saul is getting bad counsel.

He's listening to bad counsel, David got bad counsel, but he didn't listen to it is not the bad counsel that the rails people listening to bad counsel. I you know I hear all these yahoos on the radio.

Always talk show host on the television watching I don't I don't need to watch and I don't care what they say.

I care less what Oprah has a say about anything because she is so godly to me.

She's Time out there so many ways, the habit is that what is is I would do.

Why would you go to some I like that for counselor advice that's bad counsel.

That's bad counsel to anybody that not in this book that's not a follower of Jesus. Be very careful about listen any counsel is probably bad. Be careful not about people saying the following Jesus, much less people to openly our apologies try to give you count. Why would you go to somebody like that. Well, they been professionally trained in what and you and Maslow and all these guys and I had all this sorted garbage and all this power key means of man at all the stuff that have nothing to do with the Bible and that's who you think you should follow I'm following Jesus life lesson. Don't listen to bad counselor advice. Don't listen.

The bad counselor advice. I'm not saying you don't ever need to sit with somebody and get biblical principles applied to your life. That's not what I'm saying there are times when you need that there are times when I need but part of the process should be identifying those people who have friends in their life if they don't have fruit in their life. Don't take your counsel is basically this fruitless lesson, and see in the sense that you have David who received bad counsel didn't take yes Saul, I think received bad counsel did verse 21 then Saul said I have send return my son David Fry will harm you know more because my life is precious in your eyes this day. Indeed, I played the fool and aired exceedingly. I played the fool of aired exceedingly suffer some soffits on like this.

Sadly enough, will see the he really didn't mean it. How do we know he doesn't mean it because there's no action, no action. You see there's a lot of people in the world that are sorry for the things and not but they've yet to come to Jesus.

They've yet to turn from the things that they're doing to the Lord the past David are saying they were saved by works absolutely not saved by grace grace alone through faith but were saved by a faith that works your faith. James talks about this year in your faith should begin to change her life slowly but surely there should be changes in your life. We don't see these changes in Saul we see Saul getting bus to go start so intricately. But I'm so is it is a really sorry the Bible talks about the fact that there's a sorrow that leads to death.

What is that mean I'm sorry got busted. Sorry I call sorry been inconvenienced. Sorry you know about it. And then there's what I'm sorry man. Laura messed up.

We would you please help me not to do this again because I really want to fall you really want to serve everyone.

It was a send everyone of us is played the fool. What we do with that the size not only how this life goes but decides your eternity. Verse 22 and David answered and said here's the king's fear, let one of the young men come over and get it. May the Lord repay every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness for the Lord delivered you in my hand the day but I would not stretch out my hand against the Lord's anointed you and David learn this will be a very valuable lesson in his life in its next life was trust God to deal with people trust God to do with people. Jesus tells us how to interact with. It was his love, pray for talk to but don't thirst spears out don't hate him, you realize you can't change anybody. Do you realize I can't change anybody can be used by God to help people change, but I can't change if I could come out to you right now and sprinkle Holy Spirit dust on you and change your life.

I would like that joke before I did. I buy crop duster and drive it over the triad sprain that Holy Spirit dust deliver my friends got were altering I can't do that you can't change people in your life. You can pray for you, can be used by God as an instrument of change that you yourself you don't have power to do that from. We can't change people, especially the people that don't want to change and sometimes we get really frustrated in our lives. Thinking we can change people we get mad at him when the when we realize we can't change we get mad at them.

Verse 24, and indeed is your life was valued much this day in my so let my life be valid valued much in the eyes of the Lord and let him deliver me out of all tribulation. Then Saul said to David. May you be blessed my son, David, you show both the great things and also still prevail. So David went on his way him. Saul returned to his place your attention please. What an interesting contrast we have here. What an interesting contrast of Saul and David that Damon knows he's going to be king and David refuses to kill Saul even though he knows it. Saul knows David is supposed to be king, but Saul is still trying to kill is fighting against the plan of God. Wonder how many people in here are doing that tonight you fight against planning, God laid out a plan is made it clear your fight against friend.

I hope you got a lot energy hope you're ready to run long and hard and I hope you really like being heartbroken and lonely because that's what you're headed really enjoy those things friend go for fight against the plan of God for yourself. I don't do that in Hootie want to be like you want to be like a Saul or you want to be like a David Massey question are you handling your enemies tells a lot about whether aerosol worthier David run around trying to throw spears at your enemies.

Guess what your Saul if you run around refusing to throw spears at your enemy, you might be a David each one of us is done both in each one of us is played the fool. Each one of us is messed up in our lives each and every one of us of sin. The question is what we do with that sin. What we do with that knowledge. What we do with the knowledge tonight in Jesus Christ died so that you can be forgiven.

Another said many in here have come to Jesus one time and said Jesus, forgive me of my sends, I'm asking to come in to my life. I want to be a book I want to be born again. Magic was come to him on a daily basis like to see there's a lot of people here tonight. The drug baggage in with us about news. The good news is you don't have to get back out. You can leave it tonight. Some affect Jesus is asking for you to give him the baggage. Imagine that Jesus is here tonight sent you know what your broken sin stained life all exchange you give me that I'll give him a robes of righteousness. Your misery in your heartbroken this you give me that I'll give you joy and peace.

Life refill like your diet every day you give me that I'll give you eternal life. Who doesn't want to make that exchange and what happens at this point serves what we were going covered on this is got not move comes in here I come in for a friend.

If you're not doing this every day and I really don't every day of my life to come to Jesus refreshes images forgive did this yesterday.

I did that yesterday. Please forgive me. She says okay friend you know for sure that your sins have been forgiven. You can know right now only Jenna short, simple prayer simply telling God you're sorry and asking him to help you to live for him.
