Her platinum Jubilee weekend are Mark Phillips is there is exercise in nostalgia with toy soldier uniforms and princes and princesses. It's another episode of Royal family feud tribute to a 96-year-old widow from a grateful nation not alone shall never be allowed is not alone. It's an excuse for a long walk down the newly trying times party. It's a platinum Jubilee never been anything like coming up.

She is a Republican member of Congress at odds with her own party Bob Costa this morning. Talks with Wyoming. Looking back on a long career and sharing word of a comeback. You may have known nothing about the screens best and busiest actors. Jeff Fike what are you talking about, shall render the recovery and resilience of Jeff Bridges later on Sunday morning and much more data. Paul looks indoor softserve situation at McDonald's, complete with a twist plus story from Steve Hartman opinion from John Dickerson. All this Sunday morning 5 June 2022 and will be right back is why I keep mining in circumstance and Great Britain.

This is the way loyal milestones used to be, but we still are well. This is the way loyal milestones 70 years on the throne, proclaimed now. Everything about this platinum Jubilee is unprecedented for the simple reason that it's never happened before. No monarch is over seven top British aristocratic tree for so long. This Jubilee has been a bit of a Royal show because the Queen has difficulty moving around these days. Well, it's been quite sure when and where will show up.

The days are long gone. She could take ceremonial military salutes on horseback. That role is now been handed to her son and heir to Charles, who represented his mother Jubilee trooping of the color parade claims may not retire but apparently they do gradually way the royal clock ticks on changes in many ways is national towing piece Robert Hardeman's latest book on the roses queen of our times is her aging in a way, the way we got a measure history of timelessness to the queen of intrusions, shields and loops different fashions a different young woman, correlation 12/7 states of the rest of timelessness to that the Queen claiming she had been some discomfort on the first day of the Jubilee on Thursday stayed away from the big service at St. Paul's Cathedral on Friday. Her absence, making this Jubilee even more. Again Charles was there on her behalf.

Queen Camilla and William, the next in line with Kate and perhaps doing the headlines Harry and Megan. The couple that was strange from the family and in self-imposed exile in California were allowed this cameo in the Jubilee show there leaving the royal life clouded in active stations of racism against Megan Hollis had been brutal and cold there brief return showed no evidence of anyone, but this Jubilee was about Queen and overcame the chill help, perhaps by her participation in the lighting of a series of celebratory fires around the country and around the world going with her job, but I don't say that just because I'm a patriotic great Robert Lacey has written numerous royal biographies is more than the Queen of the United Kingdom. She's been described queen of the world.

If America had queen that would take her as the general assumption how she managed to do the Queen's favorite hobby is her racehorses talk to the people in horseracing which is a pretty cutthroat spool. They have enormous respect for the way in which the queen breeds of horses trains horses and gets results that she's brought that same statelessness and expertise to her job.

Queen however she's done it worked and not just thousands of patriotic Brits who turned out for these events.

Among the appreciative crowds that were from new Fairfield County from US country that went to some special effort to get rid of what brought you back to a thing like this in the state. The pomp and circumstance. I mean, you know, nobody does anything up like this. But this Jubilee was also an excuse for a party thousands of just-in-time. There are different ways of looking at this Jubilee is harkening back to an imagined romantic age princes and princesses is an exercise in nostalgia with prancing horses and marching rose toy soldier uniforms.

It's an affectionate tribute to a hereditary monarchy was hung around her job somehow embody the national spirit. It's all not the fighting in Ukraine as well into its third month with no end in sight. David Martin has a Sunday Journal.

The battle for Ukraine has turned into a slugfest of doing more children is not the lightning quick takedown with former CIA Dir. David Pretorius says there's no denying Russian progress grinding costly but substantial gains control at least 20% of the countries included in the areas control in 2014 swath of territory they would look like this. If it were in the United States, stretching from Orlando to North Carolina. How do you think Vladimir Putin feels about the first hundred sure she would look in the mirror and say you know this is all well he would regard this is very much a work in progress. Russian forces are nowhere near as good as we thought they would be.

Are they still just good enough there plastering areas where they find Ukrainian resistance can only go on so long as they're also taking very very high losses. Some estimates I have lost 15,000 killed and 1000 tanks Ukrainians to suffer losses 60 to 100 killed each day with their equipment is being replenished by the US and other Western countries 108 howitzer with a range up to 20 miles for rocket systems which can fire samples of the 40 is the US giving Ukraine enough to just hold the line, or are they doing them enough to actually take back lost territory. I think we the other countries are giving Ukraine enough to take back lost territory but again does remain to be seen new equipment is not much use unless the Ukrainians can effectively employ it in combat USA sent thousands of Javelin antitank missiles to Ukraine, but one American veteran Mark Hayward arrived at the front and March as a volunteer. He found they were useless. They couldn't turn the things on to tell whether they work and were not enough batteries to power because they didn't have batteries, you can't do anything other than put this darn thing your arms room and wait for the tanks come at us again will pull out hope it works using parts from broken computers.

They designed a way to power the javelins with motorcycle batteries. It had a strong air of where making this up as we go along and you're making it up well.

The Russians are 2 km short notice or we were making up all the Russians were 1.6 km away came out of storage and 96 hours later. The Ukrainians recorded their first Russian tank. You Ukrainians are now going on the offensive, both in the South against the Russian hell city of her son and in the North outside Harkey traces is an attempt to outflank the Russians soft spot for Mrs. it is very possible that they could just keep on. I personally think that it is a foregone conclusion that the Ukrainian military will beat the Russian military and when they finally retake those pieces of Ukraine that are currently occupied find nothing left hearings in January 6 event, the capital take center stage in Washington this week Robert Costa this morning is in conversation with the House committee's vice chairwoman Congresswoman Ms. Cheney looking at our nation's capital this past week. It's almost easy to forget what took place here 17 months ago this Thursday night, the house committee investigating the January 6, 2021 insurrection will hold its first public hearing in nearly a year asking us to live record with the day that some would rather have us forget Congressman, are you confident that what you have found as a committee will somehow grab the American people by the lapels and say wake up you have to pay attention. I am death threats and it's an ongoing threat.

You know, we are not in a situation where former Pres. Tromp has expressed any sense of remorse about what happens where in fact a situation where he continues to use even more extreme language and so my slots and they must understand how easily are democratic system can unravel. If we don't American people deserve the full and open testimony as Wyoming representative Liz Cheney season defending democracy means holding former president Donald Trump and his allies to account for their efforts to overturn the 2020 election is the right we win the election.

It also means standing apart from most of her fellow Congressional Republicans have too many people now in the Republican Party who are not taking responsibility seriously and you have pledged their allegiance and loyalty to downtown. I mean, it is fundamentally medical, it is it is contrary to everything.

Conservatives believe to embrace a personality cult and yet that is what so many in my party are doing today is the Republican Party a personality cult. I think that large segments of it have certainly become that cold and I think there is absolutely cult of personality around downtown and I think that you know the majority of Republicans across the country don't want to see our our system unravel. They they understand how important is to protect and defend the Constitution.

Cheney is one of just two Republicans were chosen to serve in the house is January 6 committee. Its members have interviewed more than a thousand witnesses poured over tens of thousands of documents and examine the private communications of top officials in the Trump White House senior Republicans in Congress and far right organizers.

I have not learned anything that is maybe less concerned what's made you more concerned about. I think the extents the expanse, how broad this multi-pond effort was was it a conspiracy.

I think certainly I mean look. If you look at the court filings.

It is extremely broad and well-organized.

Really chilling. Jeannie was once the number three Republican in the house but a year ago, she was voted out of leadership for her criticism of Trump. She further angered minority leader Kevin McCarthy when she joined the January 6 committee. McCarthy was recently issued a subpoena by the panel but he has refused to testify, claiming the committee is illegitimate, what keeps Kevin McCarthy close to Tromp fear or something else.

I think some of it is fear. I think it's also craven political calculation.

I think that he is decided that you know the most important thing to him is to attempt to be speaker the house, and therefore he is embracing those in our party are anti-Semitic. He is embracing is in our party who are white nationalists is lying about what happened on January 6 and he turned his back on the Constitution, get your colleagues continue to back him. I've never seen anything like it before and I think it reflects in and represents the danger this moment McCarthy has publicly disputed Cheney's characterizations abandoned by GOP leaders in aggressively targeted by Tromp Cheney is now battling for reelection fight the forces aligned against her include Wyoming Republican chairman Frankie was on the Capitol grounds on January 6. Jeannie says her fight is a proxy for a crisis in her party is this moment of moral test for the Republican Party absolutely no question and and right now are failing. You know, in my state the state party chairman is a member of the keepers he was he was here on January 6 he was here with a walkie-talkie in his hand on January 6 that is a mortal threats and it is a moral test can't fail that moral test but there are too many right now in my party who are failing did not respond to a request for comment. While some Democrats have embraced Cheney's because the 55-year-old mother of five has conservative credentials she has forged over decades. She's against abortion rights through fossil fuels backed by supporters of gun rights and unflinching hawk and foreign policy, and she voted with Tromp, some 90% of the time. And then there's her father, who was Wyoming's house member for a decade as VP Dick Cheney was seen as so conservative and menacing to Democrats that some called him Darth Vader. And yet, on January 6 of this year Dick Cheney was one of the few Republicans to attend the house commemoration of the capital attack. Now we sat down and we were in the front row of the House chamber and he looked behind him. We are on the Republican side and any turned back to me and he said you know it's it's one thing to sort of watch the news and to read about what's happened to our party. He said it is really another thing to be here and to look and see all these empty seats and and not see another Republican. Cheney said she frequently seeks her father's counsel and as she seeks inspiration at this crossroads for the committee. She looks even further back into her family's history, I've thought a lot recently, especially about my great great grandfather who fought in the Union Army in the Civil War and I think about what he did. I think about what generations have done to hand tech's this incredible jewel. This this unbelievable blessing of this country and I am going to do everything possible that I can do to make sure that you know when irrational, dangerous, former president doesn't destroy. Is it a coincidence, Congresswoman, that you think a lot about the Civil War these days we are thankfully not at a moment of civil but we are certainly at a time of testing. We are absolutely in a moment where we have to make a decision about whether were going to put our love of this country above partisanship and to me there is just there is no gray area in question, and every American should be able to say we love our country more take-out with preacher Gareth this week. Stephen Law allies Mitch McConnell and one of Washington's biggest midterm monument list for me to Senate races you think Republicans have the best chance of taking a democratic seed with Nevada not Georgia. George is right up there, but New Hampshire's surprised New Hampshire people really just kind of don't like you have for more from this week's conversation, follow the take-out with major Gareth on Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts now streaming progress and crazy time once final point is when people in the best way to protect people is to convict final season Millstream exclusively on this morning has a story with me ending years in the making, like a longtime during the wait fortress weight airport arrival facet is easy made this empty file will try not to cry, but of course he would not for the first time in his life. All his dreams were about to come true.

We originally met percent in 2006. He was living in Afghanistan and recently sent a Facebook message across the world today. Trump player for the orchestra that was looking from start off saying I'm the best trumpet player in Afghanistan because there only to and I was immediately taken by him. I said okay I got I got to read the rest of what he has to say facet told the Taliban wanted Western music band the players punished did you feel like you are risking your safety and some fine, but you did it anyway. So with that, some help from David Bissett got into the prestigious Interlochen Center for the arts high school in Michigan. From there he went on to college in the US and even got an internship with the Congressman said so cherished new American once broke out his just so that's the kind I use also been a little, his entire family in Afghanistan hadn't seen him in six years. We all fled after the fall of Kabul but couldn't get to America last Bissett's father. His mother and his three sisters joined in Kansas City is mom marijuana said it was a dream to see my son or die Bissett's family arrived just in time to see him graduate from the University of Kansas with 3 and one day facet hopes to work for the State Department as an ambassador, but until then he's perfectly happy with this tumbler titles brother and son winning actor Jeff Bridges is hard at work again with a newfound appreciation for life. Then Mankiewicz has our Sunday profile this spring day in Santa Barbara.

Jeff Bridges is having fun turning the backyard to be looking into an acting studio. Woefully unprepared students in the bathroom gesture at 72 Bridges is a star. This singular brightness seven times and often best actor for crazy heart is a leading man with the soul of the character could be a hero or villain. The statesman I or a stone. I think creative artists are task is to get getting hooked is easy when the bugs in your blood board actors Lloyd Bridges and Dorothy Simpson's mom knew how to get a good performance out of them right from the get-go. Less than a year old and a 1951 drama Jane Greer's happy cry. Jane baby cry my mom's picture and just cry. Years later, bridges share the small screen with his dad CBS TV series lesson then guides him today to Jamail the basics. Just say your lines because you listen to what I'm saying Another acting role model was in the next room. His brother Beau Bridges older by eight years old to vote came up with a grave of the flatbed truck pulled into a supermarket father taught us how to stage V people gathered around try to break this up show just breakout film came in 1971. The last picture show studio office follow, including golden like the opposite Clint Eastwood bridges. Amazingly told director Michael Cimino wasn't right for the part really this guy Jeff yeah. He's been it ever since. And against all odds, star man, jagged edge Ironman true grit hell or high water. And of course the big Lebowski.

It's such a good movie so well written, just like your opinion and executed from all so wonderful when that happens. If it seems Jeff Bridges leads a charmed life. Consider the devastating one-two punch thrown at them during the pandemic that a couple years yeah been aware for a while can serve the covert. The whole thing. He's talking about began when he went to see a doctor after experiencing some pain to get this checked out and I go where you find out I like 12 inch foam a cancer diagnosis was blown number one number two came when Bridges and his wife Susan tested positive for covert, 19 Susan spent five days in the hospital.

Jeff five weeks. What a journey.

Whatever. Well couldn't breathe his amazing paying for not being able to breathe.

You have moments where you think this might be a all of the doctors my wife would ask is that guy doing the best we can reassure the result five my doctors.

Jeff, you gotta fight the fight are you talking about surrender gets sick and your friends. And that's that's part of that she thought I told you dealing with problems. What's right in front of you. Those turned out to people.

That's life.

That's the way that's that's what's in front of me is beautiful. This was particularly beautiful Bridges made a pledge to dance with his daughter at her wedding.

I started getting better. Michael was walking Haley down when I get the water down wedding dance answer now in mission. Jeff credits his wife Susan, giving him the resolve to stay strong 45 typical Hollywood marriage is so wonderful where Demeter Montana movie.

I have a photograph.

The first words that I ever said to my wife when she first she said we know click that it's my prize possession. He's back at work to the TV series starring in the old man on FX.

It's a richly drawn character, former CIA operative backing is a guy getting along is not sure this past well it's interesting 2022 is shaping up as a much better year for Jeff Bridges got a new role and a fresh perspective. During my illness we so often think that's not really what I wanted I wanted more of this. Just being alive. See, hearing, feeling, touching, covert taught us that were all in this together for all connected and to feel that connection the form of love, much else in the mood for a little ice cream. David Pogue may be able to help may be able to help you have no trouble buying ice cream is another story.

So how many McDonald's ice machines with you guys are broken right now or percent this past week. 19% of them were down in San Diego 28% in New York City. That's according to broken.com website designed to track machines in real-time broken machines have become the machine mascots can't make Larry ice cream machine tell what Donald says that rumors of their breakdowns are greatly exaggerated.

But even they poked fun at the problem in 2020. The company tweeted we have a joke about our softserve machine, but were worried it won't work for decades, Illinois based healer was the exclusive supplier of softserve and shake machines to McDonald's. This is very similar to the Jeremy O'Sullivan got to know these machines in 2011 when he and his partner Melissa Nelson founded a line of frozen yogurt kiosks.

They call the tail machines finicky and overengineered. Okay what about this PRL greater than 40 one half alfresco elements just because the machine is down doesn't mean it's actually broken, it might just be going through its mandatory daily for our past rises and each step in that process has to done in executing a certain time whole thing feels is restart coming in the morning and it would say what will O'Sullivan even claims that the fragile design is intentional so Taylor can rake in your feet McDonald's employee's was a pick up the phone ring ring call Taylor technician hey please come out.

We really want to pay Taylor $500 for repairs well may not be especially true Taylor declined an on camera interview said by email. Taylor does not make any money off of servicing its machines. All repairs to tail machines are handled by a network of independent distributors, although that may not be completely true either. Taylor charges those technicians for training costs about 25% of the company's revenue comes from selling replacement parts. What did you guys come up with that could help with the situation we created catch legends a little tiny computer that attaches to the front panel of the machine decrypts very complicated messages, not your typical employee know this is a greater so this would say HPr greater than 41 SL, what would the kitsch message say it's more helpful in maybe something as simple as like this is Hopper heated up because you left little the kitsch device also offers a remote control. This machine turns off your home kits lets you know from your phone. You could restart absolutely. The founders say the kitsch add-on was a hit Donald's owners and even got a thumbs up ahead of the franchise owners team and restaurants sees a but unbeknownst to kitsch Taylor had been developing its own similar device and was studying the kitsch to mimic its features one Taylor executive emailed how can we do the same thing. Kitsch is doing. Then in late 2020. McDonald's emailed the owners of all 13,000 franchises don't use coach actually said that kitsch can cause serious injury. How would that happen while one I suggested that the kitsch remote control feature could make the machine start running while someone was cleaning or maintaining endangering employees fingers that may not exactly be true either. All parts when you remove the door kitsch can operate nothing happened. The only danger that kitsch ever proposed was to Taylor's bottom line. After the McDonald's memo business dried up and kitsch shut down. The founders are now suing Taylor and McDonald's for millions of dollars. Reverse engineering is not illegal. I mean it's dirty pool but is not a legal there is a bunch of stuff in here that is super illegal can't say something is dangerous when a thought enters mainly about false advertising interfering expectancy. McDonald's also declined an interview, but said by email that the kitsch device is unauthorized equipment which kitsch never submitted to McDonald's for safety testing. McDonald's calls the lawsuit meritless. And Taylor says it's built on false allegations, but until the lawsuits conclude Taylor is put its own device on ice for now can all look forward to more moments like this well and I think there's an illusion that you seem to work really hard and build a great mouse and take it from people who built a better mousetrap and its nave enough to think all my gosh there a lot of our solution to this earlier, we told you about the upcoming January 6 hearings in Washington some thoughts about that from our John Dickerson during the Civil War, Pres. Lincoln was told construction on the capitol dome could not continue for lack of funds. He said it must, if people see the capital going on. It is a sign we intend the union shall go on both did affirming the relationship between a temple of American democracy and the durability of that democracy January 6, 2021 rioters tried to stop the union as it had been going on by stopping what was going on The peaceful transfer of power that has been the hallmark of the union since its founding, 246 years ago this week. Congressional hearings will examine that attack. They will reveal more than just what happened in the past. Hearings will highlight what is happening right now. An ongoing struggle between two sets of habits that will determine how the union will go on into the future. One set of habits is represented by the capital that competing interests can be resolved through reason and that when the people decide to transfer power.

We affirm the system that allows it by gathering on the capitol steps for the hand rioters brought mom helpful and I try to use fear of violence. A specific proceeding first branch of the federal which they did not like never before had the president the most powerful person in American government taken aim at a core feature of that government so widespread bipartisan repulsion after January 6 should banish the habits of the rioters and the president they say inspire them, but it has not.

Polls show a majority of Republicans believe the 2020 election was stolen. Despite legal decisions and election audits.

Donald Trump is not bounce from his party from breaking his oath is promoted as its next nominee, the habits of American democracy withstood the challenge of January 6, but will they withstand the next test the response to the hearings will offer a clue on one side will be those who keep with the habits and traditions that were threatened on January 6.

On the other will be those who respond by employing the habits of deception, diversion and assembling which led to the attack which side prevails will point toward how and maybe whether the union will go on into the future. Thank you for listening.
