Until we get into the late stages of 20, 22, which blows me away. You know what else blows me away on Sunday when detergent mom and then we went to all.

For those of you who are Texas residents, or you are familiar with Texas buggies. We stopped by my favorite Texas institution buggies. There were only 500 and something people in this he was a humongous buggies. I tried to explain it to producer J and I told her there have to be 30 gas pumps at this buggies and even though yeah like a gas station right now.

It's got gas pumps, but it's not a gas station so anyway we stopped buggies with Brazilians of other people and we were going through the bull KB section which is my favorite and walking around and I was thinking about it this time next week and the week after that in the week after that we get to that in the infinite weeks after that. They're not technically infinite because I do know there's a number of them, but no more free Sundays until mid February or what is why I no longer look ahead is much that you still using one of those people to always look to head to do that anymore because it's overwhelming to look ahead and to think about the fact that football season is just about to start and my life is just about to change in such a drastic weight on not sad about it. I love football, it's one of the reasons why, don't change time slot. I don't want to give up Sunday nights. There's a lot of other people.

Producers who come and go. I think Jay's the ninth producer about the show since I started working here at CVS were to radio but the reason why say because I don't want to give up Sunday nights and I really don't want to work Friday nights either.

So here we are. The cusp of another football season, it dawned on me Sunday as I'm walking around buggies leisurely enjoying the afternoon. There are no more. These literally no more Christmas this year because Christmas is a Sunday and while I may not be working the show that night. You can't just take off in the lab. The later stages the last few weekends of the end of all season because stuff happens and you either watch it or you have to go back and watch it, they might as well pay attention to it while taking place though I'm not I'm not upset about it it's it's my favorite time of the year, but as I said to my mom and scoot time. This was my last bit of before it gets Caray Gallagher to do that. But there's also going to be some long nights and long hours and people ask me all the time you how are you what's going on with you.

Blah blah. If they asked me anytime between Thursday to Tuesday. Just tell them it's football weekend. It's the football weekend.

Nobody gets that, but the football weekend runs Thursday to sell were glad you're with that. I hope that you are strapped in writing ago come Thursday because it's bills and its randoms and then week one Sunday is right on the heels of that very first game. It's after hours on CBS sports radio were live from the rocket mortgage Studios you need to know what it takes for a home to fit your budget and your family. Rocket can. I've already seen a post on Facebook asking me where the Celebes are with me and mom so okay I thought, I'm doing a show here, but I promise to to get those to you as soon as possible. Also got a bunch of other stuff to record behind the scenes. There's just a lot happening here, but we did fix survivor island so please check that out on our show Twitter after hours CBS or on her Facebook page.

And while you're there, you can send your questions were asked Amy anything. Our phone number 85521242278552124 CBS on tomorrow and I will do a fun football question. A kinda kick off the season, but right now just doing my best to catch up and to make sure I take an opportunity to talk about some of the big storylines over the past five days. And of course you would have to have been hiding under a rock even made taking vacation and doing absolutely nothing.

Over the course of five days. Even me. I couldn't avoid and didn't want to avoid seeing Serena Williams final U.S. Open appearance in case you're wondering, it was me and you and millions of our closest friends, though most watched tennis broadcast in ESPN's 40+ year history were talking about grand slam finals were talking about Roger and Rafael talk about Serena and her sister.

There have been other farewells there been American men who have bid farewell at these majors Serena Williams and who were we think swansong she thinks swansong at the U.S. Open the most watched tennis broadcast in ESPN's 43 year history. Her loss last Friday was Friday.

I forgot which day it was 4.6 million viewers. And if you're watching until the end.

Even though that third set got away from her pretty quickly.

If you're watching you know that afterwords was mere seconds before the tears were flowing and she wanted to express her gratitude to the people that helped her get to this point and put together a career that may never be topped is amazingly bad. I tried, I totally lost it. I started to cry when she talked about her mom because my mom is done the same for my career and she was a single mom for a good portion of my time growing up, but then when she mentions very venous and she starts crying and venous of courses she's much more stoic than Serena is. But she also had tears and she was in the family box and just it.

It was one of those moments that I'm so glad I got to see live because it just would not of been the same if I had it and she mentions Ila Ila Tom got a much is the opponent that beat her and that's bittersweet right. If I remember correctly the first time this young woman had played Serena Williams. It was a dream come true for her, and yet she recognize that everyone in the entire building, except for her box wanted her to lose. Probably the most conflict of ever felt after when because in during the match. I was so eager to end.

I mean, I wanted to.

Inasmuch as the next person because I didn't look at her like oh Serena lasts no tournament but then when it ended, it felts you know it just almost didn't feel right like an end when she started talking about a family and everything I just yeah it like I got emotional because I can relate to having a strong bond with your family and not when she said that you know she wouldn't be there if it wasn't for them. I relate to that a lot so yeah just the whole moment after was was just tough to handle a little bit. I appreciate her maturity and I appreciate her recognition that the moment was that about her. She was going to have another moment she was going to be out there on the court. Again, this was about Serena.

It was about the Williams family and it was perfect. She handled it so perfectly.

Even though she's the one that could have been crowing. She's the one that could have been pounding her chest so to speak, proverbially, probably was a career highlight for her and at the same time she had the presence any understanding that this moment wasn't about her and she would have hers somewhere down the road. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence here in CBS sports radio ratings for this match between Ila and Serena peaked at this just under 7 million viewers. That is more than NBA playoff games. I mean that's astronomical that that's a number that's unheard of for tennis and that's just one way to measure the impact and the draw and the popularity and the realization of what Serena has meant to not just the sports world women's sports but tennis. It'll never be the same. No doubt there were tons of people who enjoyed seeing Tiger Woods in her box for the second round match in which she rallied and one in three sets and Apple Russell Wilson CR. They were also in her box. At one point it might've been that Friday match. They all blend together now because of Serena.

The U.S. Open was the most viewed in the first five days that it's ever been on ESPN network. I'm excited for her because she's obviously got plans. She's obviously got an entire life outside of tennis that maybe we didn't see as much of early in her life. Though we would see her parents and we would see your sister. Rank is venous was always around, but she is a woman with a ton of other interest. Not only is she a mama which I think is phenomenal. But she's a wife and she's big into fashion. Both she and venous are and any other thing that she wants to do right. She has got so many other ways that she can diversify into entertainment so I'm excited for her, though I can imagine she's exhausted coming office last month unladylike view mom and explored his conversion of Serna and technically in the world. I'm still super sore one. I like the evolution of a lifelong skill walking. I love that technically in the world. I'm still super young it's a perspective that we don't often hear from athletes and yet it's so true right Tom Brady is another example of the super is an example of. She's 41 Bradys 87 just 45 years old man.

He made 40 honestly, he's got his life still had about him even if he only lived 80 enemies America quotations only if you like this got Melinda hundred 15 because he he's maniacal and is nutrition, not to mention his wife. Same situation they might set a new Guinness Book of World Records record for the oldest living couple on the planet Earth.

I guess going back to the days of Methuselah. So there I would not be surprised if either one of them lives until 90+ half their lives out of them. Same thing with Serena. Same thing with Sue Bird and athletes that retire in their mid-20s or late 20s or early 30s.

I know can be jarring because so much of your life. That point is been associated with your support and trying to be the best of the best your sport, but there are a bazillion ways that athletes can pivot diversify expand their business interests, maybe even their business empire depending on who were talking about Lebron James is a great example of that is already doing it so is Kevin Durrant, though he still that pretty rich contract extension that he else to play out. The world is different for athletes now. It's not just broadcasting its broadcasting is entertainment its business. Many of them have diversified into the economic realm tried to invest their money.

So there's there's a whole new world out there and I love the point that she makes. I'm still relatively young in normal life in normal society. I'm just super tired because if everything that I've done in her life has been a slave to the tennis schedule. It's been beholden to that the tennis grind. Now the older she's gotten end of the better she's got an aircraft in the higher she was in the rankings and she spent a good chunk of her career.

Number one, of course, she doesn't have to play nearly as many tournaments the same rules don't apply.

And she said she should've started to come back earlier.

She only played what's six matches this year going into the U.S. Open. She would have been a lot a lot farther along that, rehab and recovery process. If she'd started her clear, but it is not a number one focus anymore. Pretty amazing though what she was able to accomplish Sibley because of tenacity and determination and the power and explosiveness. I still say that regardless of being 40 years old about to turn 41, that on any given day.

She's got the most powerful groundstrokes in the game.

She still got that explosiveness and she's got that will sheer will. We also got the humor going back to her second round match was it Mary Jo Fernandez who asked her on court.

How did you do it. How did you come back to get the number two player the world. She says I mean I'm a pretty good player myself still super young. I love it. I absolutely love it. I will miss her and Sue Bird to and who knows how much longer we have Tom Brady, though he did sort of address why he returned to football and what this means moving forward sorted you a ramped up version of QB news will do that in about 20 minutes. Don't forget to send your questions for ask Amy anything because that's coming up, and when we doing this pretty today you decide. I've decided to many other things. When we about 40 minutes 40 minutes okay so top of the hours were saying alright so 40 minutes away top of the hour, an opportunity to dive back into it and this is how I know where to get immersed in the show and and his captain rip off the Band-Aid.

There's no jumping and slowly actually that's how I get into the pool except for the morning that I read in Houston when it was 91% humidity. Did I didn't even check the humidity. It was in the 70s. I thought I better go now before it gets any warmer and I get about 40 minutes into my runs about 4 miles I was planning on going a full hour and all of a sudden I'm not feeling so well. I'm lightheaded. I get kind of those cold flashes that you get when you're dehydrated and when you're flirting with with some heavy heat exhaustion, not heatstroke, but I just realized move and it wasn't like I wasn't running, but I just said it was not safe for me to keep running and that milk is never a bad choice. So on that morning I jumped into the pool. I put my bathing suit and boom didn't even have to stick my toe in first just went diving in to the 82° water.

My mom refused to get Inc. is only 82°. Every other job I got in the pool. Over the past week.

It was slowly feetfirst and up to my knees up to my waist. I first day I read a book standing in the shower when the pool for a while thought it was a really good book for ask Amy anything to our show Twitter after our CBS also to our Facebook page. While you're there, you can join us on survivor island. We put up an extra link and now so that even if you were with us last year you could be with us this year something funny pretty surgeon I saw on social media, and I do not remember who it is, so please don't ask me so I can keep this a secret.

Somebody was crowing about the fact that he was going to have a survivor pool with 400 people that I thought okay yes, important people is impressive, then we are off the charts. Hereinafter hours, because we generally triple at your populations will hire tomorrow so were excited about that. You joining us on survivor island again that means it's on. I haven't yet done my fantasy draft that's coming up on Wednesday evening. I have enjoyed either of the survivor pools yet.

I am running out of time.

I'm running out of the after hours with Amy Lord, the VBS porch radio you are usually tells your mental health.

Chronic stress is trauma choice for odysseys. I'm listening to our national mental health conversation Wednesday, September 21 at 6 PM talk saves lives to be after-hours podcast 694 career home runs, one strike only grateful. You will know multiple times that needed a bunch of times. I showed mom home run number 695 from our pools, but hearing it again with John Rooney and company on Cardinals radio. I get chills.

I am telling you I am so proud of myself and I'm proud of myself when it comes to work. I'm generally more critical of myself than anything more critical than you will ever be just that you know but I am so proud of myself that going back to spring training going back to those days when our pools and I know spring training was truncated but going back to those days in our pools first on the field with the Cardinals re-sign with them down the field with them. I was on this. I was on this and I was sure this is going to be the story of the summer and I'll be damned if I do get out in front of it. The little about like jumping on.

I didn't have any insider-trading knowledge. I just had a feeling and hope. I think hope is not a strategy, not all the time, but in this case it definitely is hoping, praying, believing that this Albert pools would add to his Hall of Fame career is Hall of Fame resume his extensive extensive accomplishment both as a team player and as an individual by getting to 700 home run and their people told me that the people who told me it wasn't happen. It was impossible what the after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio.

It was a pinch-hit home run to run shot responsible for the only two runs in that game against the Cubs. His final game in that storied rivalry of St. Louis and Chicago. He went over one tonight subs want to make sure you know he did not have another homerun on Tuesday night, but it's been pretty amazing to watch him hit the ball to see him at work.

It's not just hey I got lucky and happy to swing at the right time. This is one of the best hitters of our time and so he is putting all of his knowledge all of his wisdom. All of his experience to work when he's at the plate and he may tell you numbers don't matter to him.

But the man is the lock in right now he is doing what he does best. God is so lame, mild guy wants a good thing goes like this, with a bustling dinner to come up to his choosing. When angry with you, and you know really well right now so you think it was the right time to play drivers windows will we talk about it after we want to know. Still gonna think about the game.

As far as due numbered in less time against them at Ridley's done a lot of damage against the team for a long time and it's good that he got one more about here.

You can't mess and Albert pools that back right now. You just can't.

They're all worth watching is all some to see this and the last time we watched it was when Albert Albert pools is about to catch the last guy who did this Alex Rodriguez but how much with a rod needed in the final stages of his career, he will know I was rooting for him to get to 700 maybe the Yankees adult to get a few extra ticket sales out of it. Care if you remember Joe Girardi was the manager and would even talk about it when he was marching toward 700 and he fell short, and a lot of people believe that was poetic justice because of his steroid usage and the fact that he cheated for so long and lied about and no one was rooting for Al across Alex Rodriguez. When Barry bonds was chasing history when he passed Hank Aaron. Do you know who was rooting for Barry bonds San Francisco that that outside his favorite Cisco. There are a lot of people who still refuse to acknowledge that he is the homerun king that he has the most home runs in major league baseball history and is unlikely to ever be caught. At least not by anyone that I can see playing major league baseball right now even 500 homeruns is a major feat in today's game is not that we don't have powerful hitters. We got guys like Mike Trout Houdini just hit 300 I could be wrong.

Don't quote me on that. But I feel like I just saw where he had hit his 300 career homerun you got guys like Juan Soto right who have power and have pop but the consistency that's required in the longevity that's required to get to seven. Hold homeruns seven home. I mean first night back. There's going to be these errors that it is amazing when what was that was that about how Joe Girardi drop lined up and did something happen there it just flopped. It flopped or the computer messed up, who homeruns.

Who are you to blame it on J Bell it was you was a false start or was it like you were trigger-happy will soon you can highlight the whole thing.

It's okay operator error is what he sang. So I get my point is last time this happened with a rod before that it was Barry bonds before that I get to go back to Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa when there was excitement and yes there was excitement that in 1998. But as we now know it was a farce. It was a race that was built on PED fuel enter now again people look back and sorry that I got to see it. It was a really exciting summer in baseball when every single at-bat with Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa was televised live like there were networks that were break-in had permission from Angel baseball to break-in with the at-bat and it better damn well be that way with our pools because this is can't miss TV right. Our campus radio.

The Cardinals radio network does an awesome job. So here he is at 42 years old and is 22nd season same numbers Barry bonds. By the way same number as Alex Rodriguez same number of seasons is Babe Ruth and he is five away from baseball immortality, but every homerun from this point on is humongous. Think about it the next one ties a rod for fourth all time, and after that he's in sole possession of fourth all time. With only three to go before all you do is look at the show because I think about it I'm currently judging by scores and then listening to the radio network. Until I hear his next at-bat. Not too much of the Cardinals are killing it right now so there's a lot of excitement at Busch Stadium and with Cardinals nation, are we not heard that a ton over the course of the last month. I think we have sorry Brewers fans. You can find me on Twitter after our CBS others show Twitter. We want you to set your questions were asked Amy anything and to join us on survivor island. I'm pretty sure Jay thumbs up that J put the selfies with mom up on her Facebook page as well. I'm listening to our national mental health conversation Wednesday, September 21 at 6 PM talk saves lives, how is your mental health. I'm listening to our national mental health conversation Wednesday, September 21 at 6 PM talk saves lives. We've got a surprise for you packaged up like QB you are listening to the after-hours podcast. You know that right. He is a I could interview any coach in the NFL right now would be like, because I would love to have a conversation with him which we got human.

What is all always midseason form. When the man not so authentically Mike Tomlin out. I've never heard it, but he's the best and I am psyched that football is back because we get to hear more about Tom after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio even after we saw the depth chart.

It took Tomlin a couple of days before he would confirm his starting quarterback for week one Mr. biscuit is starting quarterback in our captain just really comfortable with the two Sonos is a got it came to us with with franchise quarterback experience. If you will, is comfortable in those shoes is been the focal point of a football team and organization before I missed the hullabaloo over the initial depth chart that was released.

I'm so sorry I missed the sports world freaking out over this Stravinsky listed as QB why Mason Rudolph listed as QB to the rookie Kenny Pickett bringing up the rear. The caboose, so to speak, as the third quarterback on the depth chart. What happened they are coach clerical or cancel the cut and paste component open for little bit more colorful! It is what it is this what happened. My mother cut-and-paste to pace her lesson plans every now and then she cut and paste the wrong lesson plan into the wrong box. I would say that there is not cut and paste email that writing and math to various different contacts in the business.

With all the same question careful.

I believe the wrong name in there. I go back and I added it to be sure, yet Mike Tomlin naming his starting quarterback, it's Mitch Stravinsky, the depth chart.

Pay no attention to what you see on paper that was all sleight-of-hand and end cut-and-paste error didn't say who it was that I highly doubt it was Tomlin himself. Remember him out of sight out of mind. No, not so fast because he joins the ranks of the 8,422,000 people who have podcast. It's a brand-new one called football in and he weighed in on the Steelers quarterback situation in the wake of his retirement. In my opinion it's all should be Mitch's job for you. Mitch players will keep going and even if you have Mitch show spoke about the rehearsal but doesn't need to your people and people were so psychic in which the sugar music. Good right. And so the server-side form, but I just don't fans know like the first time the midst doesn't play well they don't start what the water going to produce on that because Cisco happen. You could give a got a chance to keep going or whatever all so it will bureaus the sea but I do in my opinion it's Mitch's job.

He doesn't dieting to lose the job he's played well enough as well to keep Northstar but almost every coach to decision to go to the heart during the people think about is that it's really hard back-and-forth if you put Kenny in their social struggle, Mitch and you can't really go back to casual back-and-forth is really hard to keep on going in there as long as you can and and and go from there. So all will supervisor carries a great person, breaking the practices training camp is like that.

So I think Northridge is really cold last when he talks about making a switch leave them in there as long as you can as if a change is inevitable, maybe just me. Maybe I'm reading too much of the things I can do that but the fact that he's even talking about the way think that spoken from the mind of a quarterback who played nearly 20 years. Were you recognizing the majority of NFL teams have to use multiple quarterbacks to get the recipes that I keep a running tally every year. I will keep the list again this year. Generally what happened more than two thirds of teams in the NFL use multiple quarterbacks because of injuries or ineptitude were on the verge of starting another season. Wowsers, I'm excited and then I will overwhelmed all at once it comes in wave after hours with Amy Lawrence here on CBS sports radio, no new contract from Lamar Jackson let somehow I missed something while I was buried at Boring in Houston.

I don't have any updates on that nothing that I'm aware of its principal about football for players and coaches and were read my interactions with the marginal football is been focused on lockdown that 100% from the four most important so that's kind of around person everything that I know I have nothing to add to the situation that we did hear from Omar that when they kicked off a week number one would be the end of negotiating so there is the chance that he could be flat with the franchise tag to give them more time. But, dear Lord is starting to feel a lot like the deck got contract negotiations where if the Cowboys – it really was more about the Cowboys taking steps toward compromise if they just taken the steps that Jack asked for going back before this became a thing we would hear about it for two years they would hear about it for two years and they might save themselves. The money actually. So for now Lamar Jackson goes into the season without a contract and he wraps himself and there are people who are worried that he can to get her yada yada yada. You cannot play football. That way you can play sports. That way if you're worried about getting hurt more likely you're closer to being hurt. Then the athlete to go in and do what they're trained to do and what is naturally to them without having that fear you cannot play sports with fear.

It just doesn't. You don't play your best that way miniature that's what he wants to do and he is I would say well on his way, but he's closer than he was five years Tom Brady and his wife are reportedly having marital stress. Please make me roll my eyes. Have you seen those headlines I could not believe that the people are talking about right now. All my gosh that he had preplanned with his family during training camp. What is the big deal he's back.

By the way, on his let's go podcast with Jim Gray, Larry Fitzgerald and still people want to hear about why he decided to end his retirement after 40 days I just felt like I had a little left and want to give a shot over to my teammates and her great coaches in our organization. We built some pretty special here in Tampa last few years and you know, we're pretty close. Last year at the end of last year we lost to the Super Bowl champ. You know they made a few more plays and we did not came. You know the competitive fire still burns that make anyone nervous in the South know I'm sure about the NFC South and how this division might play out. I certainly know there's a lot of attention on Baker Mayfield and we will hear from his head coach coming but also the one guy who's not nervous that Brady's back, or think the division is a foregone conclusion, the boxer going to win it. That would be 1 PM. Jordan, who was a guest on CBS sports HQ just sample you analyst everybody else in the world, will pump up whatever teams they filled a week before the saints for the new 4 foot team that we are that we want to be, we have to go in each and every day. Mitch prepared physically ready and get a good way every day you go and think about all their oxygen but we could care less what I hope not think that way we think about trap games, we think about jobs we think about implications we think about this portobello actually most of you think about quarterback versus quarterback which is not how it goes.

Certainly can. Jordan is not thinking that way as a D lineman and now we have to think about it as athletes right we had to be in their minds and recognize that they believe they can be anyone at any time. All right, so Matt rolled Baker Mayfield your week one starter is on Baker here. Sharon Christian McCaffrey Jack Thompson Dr. Jackson all those guys vigorously know one of 53 user quarterback know where we are serving a rally around and you want Baker to be bigger on the other one being the also the what is. But know this disc uses a game of 11 guys executed together and we want to be connected as team justices about office defense and special teams.

This is about your work. You left tackle of the ground plague is one of premier players in the game. This is about our defense facing to the preeminent running backs in the game.

There's a lot of storylines in this one will just call explained to us how Baker Mayfield facing the Cleveland Browns is not even remotely interesting, or shouldn't be just didn't work. Of course it didn't work so I hope that what your appetite just a little bit some brand-new highlights as part of our QB news production.

We appreciate production director, Doug and I appreciate producer J forgiving and will highlight were drafted up were ready for a brand-new season. I hope you're ready for you asking me anything.
