Wow while we hear and whether I should bang my head against the wall at the mud, we hide the start of the NFL season is what two hours three hours before we are reminded, it is the best and craziest reality show on TV. I hear from friends of the biz that a lot of reality shows are scripted.

It is partially playing out in front of you, but there's a lot of it. That is scripted for the camera or or enhanced for the camera.

You don't even need to do that in the NFL. Sometimes in the NFL. Reality is stranger than fiction from the category of you can't make this stuff up its at times, gut wrenching, certainly tends on the edge of your seat or throw something at the TV cut intense but it's also delicious and gaudy and jaw-dropping, and entertaining all of those things I am so so excited to hear your overreactions because that what we want is all about.

We have such a limited sample size, we have to react for pretty much everything tends to be an overreaction. As always in week one and really the first month of the NFL season, but as always in week number one we should tap the brakes. We should tap the brakes but that's not nearly as much fun so I am ready. I'm strapped in and ready to go. Give me your overreactions to week one in the NFL was still a game to go chaos reigned to be sure chaos reigned across the NFL galaxy wild rallies and missed kicks. Oh my gosh, were you following the adventures in kicking.

On Sunday, gaudy numbers, especially for wide receivers who change teams we been talking about that all of the off-season and injuries. Unfortunately, injuries that are part of the game every week so it's time to react and to overreact will get the help of national insider Matt vertebra diverter skews me coming up from Chicago at the top of next hour between now and then we will stop as much as we possibly can. A wild and wacky kickoff to the NFL season. I can't wait to hear from you. You can find me on Twitter, a law radio go-ahead. Just overreact.

Get it all out get it all out were here for you. We offer instant therapy on her Facebook page 2 after hours with Amy. We are live from the rocket mortgage Studios. Whether you're looking to purchase a new home or refinance yours. Rocket mortgage and help you get there for home loan solutions that fit your life rocket can before we do any football or anything else. It is a Sunday in September, which means it's more than just football but it was a strange confluence of emotions on Sunday. I'm sure not just for me but for a lot of people because yes, there is a ton of excitement and adrenaline over the start of football but also the 21st anniversary of 9/11 generally I spend most of September 11, watching documentaries, watching the news, remembering processing and I did tape a few documentaries because I wouldn't have been able to pay any attention to them today, but I also shared a couple photos on Twitter and Facebook that I would really appreciate if you take a look at these are actually photos that I took when I was in high school and I knew I had them somewhere but because of multiple moves over the past 10 years I did know where they were in last summer before the 20th anniversary of 9/11. I found these photos in a box I keep them out, year-round out. In fact there on my refrigerator because I don't want to forget.

I don't want this to be a one day a year. Remembrance and there is nothing like looking at photos of the original twin towers that causes me to remember and so I would appreciate if you take a look at the photos on Twitter or on Facebook. I did actually put them up on Facebook to so there and still on this Sunday, September 11. I hope you take time to think and to remember and to reflect and also maybe to pray and support those thousands. I'm not exaggerating. Thousands and thousands of people who are still suffering with 9/11 related illnesses. It wasn't until I moved into this area. The New York City area, which is where our headquarters are located in fact our CBS sports radio studios are 10 blocks from Ground Zero was in here 20 years ago, but it's impossible to ignore the freedom tower every night when I drive into work and he usually on the anniversary of 9/11. There are two purple towers of light that you can see stretching into the sky until they disappear there only lit up every year at this time, but unfortunately on Sunday all day and still as I drove into the city tonight. Low cloud cover because it's been raining all day and so I was unable to see the lights probably if you're right there it Ground Zero at the 9/11 memorial pools, which are built in the footprints of the original twin towers. You could see them but otherwise they were invisible from anywhere outside of the immediate area because the low cloud cover but there are photos out there from years past and their beautiful and there a perfect memorial but it's not just something that affected our country 21 years ago when I moved to New York and started hearing the news, I realized that we've now lost more Americans to 9/11 related illnesses. Then we lost on that day. Cancers and respiratory illnesses. Everything you could possibly imagine until there are organizations out there that you can work with partner with donate to to support first responders and volunteers, and those who were either living near Ground Zero working your Ground Zero or were volunteering to look for people in the rubble were digging through the rubble at Ground Zero and of course so many first responders police fire EMT. All of those who rush toward the danger and the pile as they called it and volunteered for days upon days upon weeks. Many of them are now paying the price.

If they haven't lost their lives already so it's a tragedy. A terror attack that is still taking lives here in the united states of America so wanted to be sure that I mention that because football is football and I really appreciate how football as well as other sports pause to mark what is a day that changed our nation's course forever wherever you are watching football.

Or maybe you are watching NASCAR you saw the incredible national anthem of flyover. I happen to have the national anthem playing from MetLife which you don't know the stadium where the Jets and Giants call home is not even 15 miles from Ground Zero act is probably closer to 10 right across the Hudson River and not only did they have a member think it was a member of the NYPD.

It was it was a member of of a law enforcement first responder who sang the national anthem, but she started it and then she put the microphone down and instead the crowd at MetLife belted out the national anthem. It was really powerful and course they had to flag and there is hearing and then there were chants of USA at the end of it. So that was something that was worth seeing if you haven't, I'm sure it's out there on social media, and I know around the country. There were moments of silence. There were special renditions of the anthem. There were different memorials and services even wrapped up in sports and that's important because boards were part of the healing process for our country. In those days after 9/11 when we needed something, anything sports to have this undeniable power to unify and help us heal and they did that 21 years ago. Today they still do it now in 2022 so hope you'll check out these photos took the myself when I was in high school had no idea. Of course, what was to come.

None of us did on Twitter a low radio and also on her Facebook page. So yes were going to dive into the NFL and see if you'll permit me one more detour. This is not a night working to do a ton of other sports storylines or headlines huge weekend of upsets in college football.

Some of those mid-majors biting back again at the U.S. Open, a 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz wins his first ever major title and will be the youngest number one ranked player ever. 19 years old.

He's the number one player in the world. Of course there was baseball.

Actually was at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. Scorching hot, but so was the Yankees offense suddenly back to back days with 10 runs against the rays and so they have preserved that lead in the AL East for now, but were not getting into a lot of however there is one nonfootball storyline that we cannot ignore you and fill in on the right side back on the left side there is a lot of rail down the line and her cervix were young deals pool swings Alyssa high flyball budget day will they gives the car go slowly with homerun search 97 impressive numbers on blue is my nose absolutely loved him. Just one step back from managing the game with use of the news, to go live in the publisher will Oliver Marmol. Not sure what we are witnessing right now, but it is phenomenal and it times there are no words in Pittsburgh pools hits 696 on Saturday tidying Alex Rodriguez for fourth place all-time on baseballs homerun list but on Sunday afternoon he blasts number 697.

Not only is the three home runs away from baseball immortality, but he is now in sole possession of fourth place on the all-time homerun list and yes he has plenty of time plenty of time to be able to get that record several weeks still to go, and I'm all about. As for Albert pools. You can see the huge smiles on his face is his phases on his one faith you could see the huge smiles on his face whenever he hits home runs and have you guys noticed will affect. I retweeted one of the highlights. I think it was from 697 today but have you noticed the gigantic embraces from Ya hear Melina every time he does anything because these guys have been together and I know pools was gone for a while but their brothers. They started in St. Louis.

They one super super holes. They won World Series in St. Louis. Now they're back together again are both in their 40s and yacht.

He is been along for the ride and so I love that he is the 1st° Albert every time a company gets back to the dugout, but that he goes through the gauntlet in the dugout and the guys are so thrilled. It's not that they care more about Albert than waiting for right now he's in his own words continue to be clutch actually is a put the team ahead. They turned to game winners there at all. There, in all of Albert as he pursues this history ends. I'm so so thankful that he's getting a chance to do it with the Cardinals was very special to the normal world war is really our number one. Years ago," but was a son, which is three years later going to change my approach and just try to enjoy the opposite of conservative moment brought it to myself so I told you once he hit 695 that everything was massive after that 696 on Saturday, 697 on Sunday. He's now in sole possession of fourth place all-time with plenty of games to go.

I will give you the exact number but I will say this, some guy wrote to me on Twitter.

I'm going to assume he was joking, but you know what happens when you assume, and said made it to get the 700 maybe he'll make it to the Hall of Fame. Yes, maybe he will make it into the baseball Hall of Fame. If you get 700. Oh my goodness. All right, not deep breath for a dive into the NFL starting with Sunday night football. It went from bad to much, much worse for the Dallas Cowboys in the span of about 10 minutes in the fourth quarter love to have you find us on Twitter how are you overreacting even now two week number one you can find our show Twitter after our CBS already gave you my twitter and that her Facebook page named after the show always got so many goodies to share its after hours with Amy CBS you are listening to the after-hours podcast so's doubtlessly is after-hours. Lawrence Ryan Radke along with Mike Golic on Westwood One radio network Sunday I football is back baby and inauspicious debut in 2022.

That was the only the only touchdown that was scored in this game between the Buccaneers and the Cowboys.

You know what happens when you skip 11 days of training camp. There was a just Brady remembers pulling the of blame to go around. No touchdowns until late in the third quarter and that the one you're the line 9 blaze 79 yards. It was lettered for net early to set up the path and then Mike Evans with a one-handed twisting touchdown grab as he is falling down on his back. He is so good at those over the shoulder. One-handed grabs and they noted on the NBC broadcast this third year now with Tom Brady has been so unbelievably productive for him in his career, but you know he's got a string of 1000 yard seasons to that really underscores his consistency. I'm so glad for him that he has an opportunity to play with Tom Brady at this point in his career and how about Julio Jones. I love this new opportunity for Julio we get a healthy dose of Julio in his first game of 2022 as well.

He grabbed three balls for 69 yards and his law was a 48 yarder that was unbelievably difficult. The high degree of difficulty and yet somehow that's Julio right so the box get the win. But there's plenty of glee to go around for Tom Brady and for Todd Bowles, the new head coach of the Buccaneers very happy to see the large barracks degree receivers Miller replace all the misinformation run through better perception. So a lot of room for improvement on so work this week will coach team when long walks together. Great job preparation may play.

They were focused on week biggest things communication at the guys want to let them but all the guys and they were thinking about the great job tonight so Dallas does waste that Tom Brady interception, which he immediately claimed as my bad and my fault they follow it up with a three and out, but that was a pretty calm in the problem for the Dallas Cowboys didn't have a whole lot going on offensively even before the middle of the fourth quarter and that's when things got real dire for Dallas Prescott. It was all about well is Shaq Barrett made contact of checking out around the rightful rooster was with her hands up there a lot of time to see the quarterback that home of Barrett's hand. What checked the game just in the midst of it.I jammed my hand on helmets or bodies a lot more clear and never let anything. Maybe Jeff fidgeted and actually felt was what was just magically realize I could get the ball but the sideline know know I got off you told to turn his studies to the doctor, the more plans for to see him surgeon Warren. Let me know. Once they get a minute or so everything was told was much cleaner than it could've been just unfortunate obstacle.

Listen to not be the same. That's what is more than more than anything special after the start that we just put out there want to be able to respond and not listen to have met opportunity for several weeks just unfortunate, but I do have always done in some verse becomes going to tell you don't have first will do my best and struck him out of this thing better thumb injury that requires surgery, according to not just tack but Jerry Jones as well, and the news broke fairly quickly after the Sunday Night Football law. So he left the field. He jogged to the locker room. I just don't NFL network again, he cannot work in that men if you ever played sports, it's probably a sensation you've experienced a jammed or jammed fingers laced to get them all the time when I played basketball, but this was something more serious. A fracture near the thumb on his throwing hand Cooper Rush immediately came into the game that did not work.

This was not Cooper magic like we got up with the money I football game in 2021 and the box opens as plenty of room for improvement in offense of line is it seen a bunch of transition but Leonard Ford had 127 yards. The Buccaneers are able to come up with four sacks in a take away. Keep in mind that the Cowboys defense played really well for a good portion of his game. Michael Parsons had two sacks picking up where he left off last year but without that Prescott it's time to overreact about the Cowboys I saw this nerd alert always the first one of the NFL season. Are you ready the last time the Cowboys had fewer than six points in their season opener, 1989.

Oh dear.

Sure there are plenty of cowboy fans who are reacting and overreacting.

I do know many people are bringing blaming Mike McCarthy but he recognized the offense wasn't stellar even before they lost DAC will go where you store first row forward so I drove whatever you thought you were going to get from boxing Cowboys. This probably wasn't it back and we got one touchdown.

I was still worth watching because the star power and because it's week one you're looking for offense. Well, there was a game just before this one that provided plenty so perfectly thrown by will route by Chelsea to switch to gold through the city is home from the Achilles injury sweet young children. The motion gets a free ride 2 yard touchdown pass with a hold his is ready to go there decided to get out there and show we had always thought of the whole season advise us of the questions of what this office with the teams will look like, and we we've always believed that we really go out there and put on a show and I thought, as did that and so to go out there and what again gets a really good football team in the win decisively.

It's a good start.

It's a good start. He says he was told that she's working to stink. This year I was told the cheese were maybe maybe be the fourth best team in the AFC West. I was told that we should lower expectations for one patrimony homes because of that I rekindle what he's only got Travis Kelsey, maybe next week they will be right five touchdowns, 488 total yards and you can say this was against the Cardinals. Blah blah blah.

But that does not fly the Cardinals are expected to be a winning team this year. Well, they expect to be a winning team app they gave all that money to Kyler Murray 22 of 34 for Kyler not even 200 yards and a couple of scores but it was too little and it was way, way, way too late, but was good for us.

Into his home. Water were ever so good about crucial burst of muscle, order so good to over there executed so complete are social so he said you can't feel yourself in this league and that's kinda what happened here today. Maybe they were reading the press about the Chiefs were to stink this year, they report to the chief's demise is greatly exaggerated greatly, so you need some offense that was the right place to look. Are you reacting are you overreacting you can buy me on Twitter a lot radio also on our Facebook page will do a little of both coming up at the top of the hour with our national NFL insider will join us from Chicago Lord, a place where was a monsoon for the Bears and the Niners silicon mow the AFC North. Never a dull moment. You are listening to the after-hours podcast was left no jelly, no change your old boom on the after-hours time to talk football with the Lord's Herbert's and that Chargers offense is new it through the sitting do you know that his three touchdown passes against the Raiders were to three brand-new Chargers three guys that worked on the roster last year that gangster quarterback.

Sometimes it take that gangster quarterback to bring everything together. I wonder if Tom Brady was jealous. It's after hours with Amy Matt Smith on Chargers radio.

Now you can note point of the offense and certainly we are obsessed with our QB's just a river deserves that will hear from him about the offense itself coming up but did you notice what the charges Newell defense did three interceptions off Derek Carr and five sacks of wine.

Derek Carr seen metal camp long to make plays a big impression on the quarterback and not secondary special and there they're tough to throw on it.

It doesn't Bryson's on Porto and there were no laws. You know it it's really fun wash.

I'm going to assume that you are not surprised that Khalil Mack had three of those sacks you want to talk about masterful and major move made by the Chargers to reinforce their defense in a division that has quarterbacks galore hello five touchdowns of Patrick Holmes three for Justin Herbert. We know that Derek Carr can throw TDC's Chuck and Doc but he did have his first touchdown connection with Devante Adams. His brand-new top-flight wide receiver in this one divine day grabs 10 catches for 141 yards and a score.

His first as a writer comes inside of five minutes to go in the fourth quarter it that point, despite cars three interceptions.

The Raiders are within five and they do have one last shot left but it was the defense of the Chargers that came through with back to back sacks on third and fourth down. That's what the charges were all about in this off-season and we talked about it late last week how many new guys are on the roster for both the Chargers and the Raiders of the go to be a lot of settling in, at least initially. Those car interceptions in the second half they really derailed any momentum. And, of course, took away multiple opportunities for them to grab the lead against the Chargers so yeah a lot of different targets a lot of different weapons, but Herbert bringing everybody together drinking to reduce little shuffle guys around and play multiple positions.

No king is an incredible coffee at the F deftly tough to play without it.

But when you putting Jeffrey Carter and Grable change Josh Palmer from Zita asked Mike to boil those positions to Gerald and got another tight and mixing place so you have guys are interchangeable to step up and there's law conference with on the group know because it was a timeout and I go out there and it's like okay were rerecorded bring us home and I saw loving us to believe that they will close and they played like it today and I think as a coach, that's what you're looking for is that they have that look and there are the confidence of one another that what we call to go executed bring us home and I what I thought you saw entombment there was our rush in our coverage playing together to bring us home. Brandon Staley and Justin Herbert. Of course he'll call me gangster quarterback any old day of the week. As for dear car outside of those three interceptions. What you really can't overlook. It was really cool to see he and Aponte Adams show off this connection that goes back to college is also something which started on the lock room where I see you and will try to make that better to limited production but I think that we can be better know on Josh McDaniels. Welcome to Vegas. Not something he had to talk about a whole lot over the course of his time with the patriots, specifically with Tom Brady but yes his quarterback had three turnovers.

There were sticking coverage a little bit you know we have some guys that were trying to get the ball to you knowing about. There was a lot of good place. You know, and there is no there is a big reason why we are at where we had an opportunity to win at the end to so you know will take a look at all three of on see what we could've done better to avoid. No let them have an opportunity to touch a football reacting and overreacting. You could do it with a question on our show Twitter now after hours.

CBS or on our Facebook page named after the show. Super easy to find. Still have one AFC West team that will hit the field come Monday night that will wrap week number one you know another one of those revenge affairs where it is the Seattle Seahawks hosting their former QB Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos after hours here on CBSSports and on top of the hour, working to spend some time with the national NFL insider from fan sided will join us from Chicago and will fit through as many as the storyline of the storylines as we possibly can. Once we get there and were also going to hit the AFC North extensively because that Steelers Bengals game was total insanity insane in the membrane. No doubt what were talking about revenge games. Of course the rounds were on the road in Charlotte to take on Baker Mayfield whether or not you believe that he had plans to bleeped them up and we can never wanted this was a brutal start for the Panthers and their new QB six total yards, 6 yards of offense in the first quarter for the Carolina Panthers. Baker fumbled twice but he recovers both of them like I was watching the Baker and Cleveland. The bad Baker this good baker and there's bad Baker with the Panthers barely managed 95 yards in the first half and it was a Baker interception that led to a Kareem Hunt rushing touchdown and Cleveland is able to score on three straight second quarter drives and is a double figure lead at the half but you think good baker show up late third quarter. He directs the 11 play 75 yard touchdown drive interesting, but we haven't seen it. There's a fumble was a botched snap and Krista McCaffrey picks it up and run 32 yards hello Phil Baker That one with a 7 yard rushing touchdown and then shot the ball like it barely missed hitting a security guard who was standing in front of you visit behind the goalpost but is getting really. Part of the wall almost to the guys had off. He was like he lost his mind because he got into the end zone at 7 yard rushing TD very next Carolina Drive. Oh, this is the Baker that Brownfields were so excited about for couple years to the left side and saw the Thomas and Richard Mayfield understood her back to throw Bob's thought on.

There's radio is 75 yard bomb to Robbie Anderson in a field on the next drive and just like that. Their seeds went from looking durable to just the other looking the first half of miserable, as was Baker to having a one point lead with under a minute and 15 to go, not Jacoby preset. He wasn't brick he wasn't great he wasn't brilliant he certainly isn't Baker really had 147 yards and a score but he does direct a short drive to get the brown into field goal range. While we found out it was field-goal range for the rookie. This is what we said that he make the prophecy come true okay or what will you why we got the pretty incredible kickers in the AFC North to be not another one of them looking for redemption over time talk and you will hear from Baker and the Browns coming up at the after hours on CBSSports
